In honor of Ellen Barags’ career and contributions, G&W Electric established the Ellen Barag Women in Engineering Scholarship Fund, administered by the EAP Educational Foundation. This scholarship will award a woman, interested in the field of engineering, with $5,000 to use in advancing her educational endeavors. Further, Ellen Barag will personally match the scholarship with another $5,000 if the individual selected for the scholarship award has been accepted to and will attend the University of Pennsylvania (Ellen’s alma mater). Eligibility:
To apply for this scholarship, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Applicant must be a female high school senior student, attending a high school in the Greater Philadelphia region*, starting their freshman year of college beginning in the Fall (at least 12 credits per semester) at a not-for-profit, four-year college/university.
*The geographical requirement does not apply to members of the EAP. - This one-time, $5,000 Scholarship will be available to young women, who are high school seniors, planning to attend a four-year accredited college or university to pursue a degree in engineering.
Application Process:
Scholarships will be awarded based upon the submission about academic performance, extracurricular activities, and volunteer/community activities. Applicants will need to upload a copy of their most recent high school transcript and will have to respond an essay prompt.
- Submit a written response to the essay prompt (750 – 1,000 words):

- Submit SAT scores
- Detail community service, volunteer roles as well as extracurricular activity involvement
